Visit Pont-Aven and its windmills
But before the painters, it was the mills that made the town famous. It’s not for nothing that a saying goes “Pont-Aven, town of renown, 14 mills and 15 houses”. In fact, the power of the Aven river once turned the wheels of the mills. Remnants of these include the Grand Poulguin mill, the Rosmadec mill, the Moulin Neuf mill, the Ty Meur mill and the Pénanros mill (still in operation).
The Bois d’Amour, on the heights of Pont-Aven, is a haven of peace where the sound of water mingles with that of leaves and birds, bringing this timeless site to life. Just a stone’s throw from the town center, this undergrowth has been a major source of inspiration for painters.
Don’t forget to take home some Pont-Aven souvenirs, including the famous galettes de Pont-Aven, from the cookie factory of your choice: Traou Mad, la Biscuiterie Penven, and la Biscuiterie de Pont-Aven.
