Come and relax in Carnac and discover its heritage
Well-being and relaxation at the thalasso, sunbathing on the beach or discovering the megaliths, Carnac, just 1 hour from Le Kergariou campsite, will charm you for a day.
You can’t talk about Carnac without mentioning its heritage and famous megalithic sites. The many standing stones – there are over 4,000 of them, both aligned and scattered – make this Morbihan town famous. The best-known site, Le Ménec, boasts 11 rows of 1,169 standing stones. For the finest specimens, head for the Kermario site, then discover the Kerlescan site and its hemicycle. But don’t leave without seeing the “ Manio Giant “, over 6m tall! To find out more about the history of these stones, visit the Maison des Mégalithes.
In 1903, Carnac-plage was created on a lagoon, part of which later became a salt marsh. This exceptional site now attracts visitors for its beauty, its sandy beaches and the many animals that live there, including migratory birds. You can also take part in water sports: kayaking, sailing, paddle-boarding… between two sessions of idleness. Both authentic and worldly, the resort has reinvented itself to attract both young and old.
And to extend your discovery, why not stroll through the streets of Carnac’s old town? Local stores, craft markets and café terraces will let you enjoy a convivial moment before heading back to the campsite. It’s a great way to round off your getaway between sea, heritage and nature.
