Le Pouldu beaches: family-friendly and sporty
Le Pouldu, a preserved coastline to discover
The seaside resort of Le Pouldu in Clohars-Carnoët boasts 3 sandy beaches: Grands Sables, Bellangenêt and Kérou, not to mention numerous coves. Since 2009, Clohars-Carnoët’s beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag label.
Obtaining this eco-label takes into account 4 main criteria: environmental education, the general environment, water management and waste management. Camping Le Kergariou in Clohars-Carnoët is fortunate to have direct access to the beaches of the Pays de Quimperlé, less than 10 minutes away by car.
Plage des Grands Sables, birthplace of the seaside resort
It was in 1850 that the first holidaymakers took to the water near the mouth of the Laïta River. The beach of Grands Sables, bordered by dunes, became the cradle of the seaside resort of Le Pouldu. The first villas were quickly built along the coast. During this period, the Grands Sables beach became a playground for painters – such as Gauguin – who stayed at the Buvette de la Page, now the Maison-Musée du Pouldu. Within a few years, hotels and vacation homes had established Le Pouldu as an unforgettable destination in South Finistère.
Bellangenêt Beach, for the whole family
Bellangenêt is THE fine sandy beach of choice. First and foremost, it’s Le Pouldu’s largest beach, welcoming the many locals and holidaymakers with open arms during the summer season. The beach has been designed to meet every need, with supervised bathing (in July and August), access for people with reduced mobility and, of course, parking nearby. Its colors change with the tides, and you’ll be charmed by its breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean, especially from the heights, on the sentier des Douaniers. This is where you’ll find the Julien Quéré anchor, in memory of the trawler that sank off Bellangenêt in 1995. This beach is a must for your family vacation in Sud-Finistère.
Plage du Kérou, the beach for sports enthusiasts
There’s no doubt about the sporting destination of this beach, a veritable surf spot in Southern Brittany, just like Guidel-plages in Morbihan. Well known for its tubular waves, comparable to those of the Basque country, Kérou beach is a must for surfers. On the beach, it’s a parade of water sports: surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, kayaking, paddleboarding… you name it, it’s THE place to be for board sports. Clohars-Carnoët has clearly positioned itself as a sporting destination, investing in its own nautical club to initiate young and old alike. In short, holidaymakers can enjoy a wide range of fun and sporting activities.
The coves along the paths
Do you prefer small beaches between land and sea? That’s part of the charm of a vacation in Brittany. Starting from the GR34, stroll a few hundred metres to reach one of the many coves along the coast. Beg An Tour near Port de Doëlan, La Roche Percée from Porsac’h are the best-known, but the best are those you discover for yourself. Please note, however, that swimming is not supervised.
