Surfing in Guidel : spots and schools

Guidel, a commune in the Morbihan region, is one of the leading destinations for surfing and water sports enthusiasts. Since 2015, the town has been awarded the "Ville de Surf" 2-star label, which ensures a welcome and an environment that encourages surfing in its various forms.

Les spots de surf

Guidel is home to some of the best surf spots in Brittany. Indeed, one of the richnesses of Guidel is the diversity of its spots!

Pen Er Malo

Novices will enjoy being introduced to surfing at the Pen Er Malo spot. This beach is known to have small, gentle waves, perfect for beginners.

Beach of the Cliff

For training, surfers will find themselves on the Plage de la Falaise. Located at the mouth of the Laïta, it is necessary to adapt to the tide and prefer to practice the sport from low tide to mid-tide.

Loc'h Beach

For the more experienced surfers, the Plage du Loc'h is the surf spot with smaller waves for the more experienced surfers. It is in a friendly atmosphere that they share their favourite pastime.

Lannénec Beach

Kitesurfers and windsurfers will find themselves at the Plage de Lannénec where the smaller waves are perfectly adapted. This is the southern part of the Fort-Bloqué, where all kinds of water sports are practised by licence holders.

Les écoles de surf

When you say surf town, you say surf schools! Guidel has 3 main surf clubs.

The ESB Fort Blocked

The Ecole de Surf de Bretagne (ESB) Fort Bloqué offers discovery, initiation and improvement in surfing. You will also find a rental service for equipment (notably surfboards) for independent use, and you can go to the Pen Er Malo site.

West Surf Association

The West Surf Association is one of the 9 schools classified 3 stars by the French Surfing Federation (FFS). Thanks to its infrastructure, its qualified instructors and the diversity of its offers, the WSA has been able to impose itself in the development of board sports (surfing, bodyboarding, paddle and skateboarding) and offers supervised group lessons.

YouSurf

The YouSurf school, on the other hand, has distinguished itself by its mobility. YouSurf schools travel by minibus and offer equipment loans to facilitate surfing lessons and courses. They also have a surf shop located in the Le Belvédère shopping mall in Guidel, with major brands such as Bic and Lastage.

Faire du surf à Guidel en sécurité

If you want to learn to surf during your holiday, don't hesitate to take a stay near Guidel, on the coast. Our campsite is close to Guidel, only 15 minutes by car from the seaside resort.

A first aid post is present on each of the beaches during the summer for safe surfing. These first aid posts are open from 1pm to 7pm and ensure the safety of swimmers and surfers. The lifeguards are equipped with jet-skis and quads for the safety of the supervised swimming areas.

Faire du surf au Pouldu, la ville voisine

Guidel's little sister, the beaches of Le Pouldu in South Finistère are also pleasant, especially the beach of Kérou where tourists and locals practice the discipline. If you want to discover board sports as well as enjoy the wild charm of Finistère, Flower Camping Le Kergariou will welcome you.

Les actions en faveur des sports nautiques

Every year in Guidel-Plages the Handiglisse weekend takes place, organised by the Vagdespoir association, whose Breton branch is located in Guidel. The aim of this association is to make board sports accessible through adapted equipment, techniques and support for people with disabilities.

For the comfort of surfers, the town of Guidel has set up a webcam on the Loc'h beach which is accessible online(click here). Thus everyone can anticipate the weather conditions to practice their sport in the best conditions.

Guidel has also made a place for itself in the world surfing championships. It is not unusual to see a Guidel school in national events. Some Guidel surfers are now travelling around the world to represent board sports, and of course, Brittany.
